A Magnolia Gingerbread House

Hello everyone!
Trust you all have a glorious Sunday.

I have a 3D project to share with you today ~
A Magnolia Gingerbread House.

My son asks me every year if I would make him a gingerbread house
apart from the store bought kit we assemble.
I thought I should start early this year
and tackle this project.

So, here it is.

The house measure 5.25"(W) x 5.5" (H) x 2.75"(D).
The base extends 3/4" from the house.

I combined several Magnolia background stamps
to create the windows, and front door.
I cut out the window and door openings
and attached vellum behind them.

I used embossing folders to create the roof, gables, brick wall
and snow on the ground.
I distressed the embossed elements with
distress inks, chalk inks, distressing tool, and top stitching.

I added some Flower Soft white snow on the roof
and top of the front door.
I also added white liquid applique on the tree and along the fence
and mistletoe border and puff it up with a heat gun.
My son commented that the mistletoe border looks like bunch of rabbits.

One side of the roof has a magnetic opening
so you can hide some goodies in the house.

The house can also be used as a electric tealight lantern.
I put a battery operated tealight inside,
and it had a nice glow through the vellum.

All images were colored with Copic markers.
All dies are from Magnolia.
The DP behind the door is also Magnolia.

Thanks for stopping by and hope you enjoy this visit.

Hugs,
Katie

By the Sea Postcard - Crafty Individuals

Hi everyone!
I am usually not a procrastinator :^), but this week I am totally behind.
I have a last minute entry for Crafty Individuals' September challenge
~ Last Days of Summer ~
which is due in less than 17 hours.

This is a double easel card measuring 4.5" x 5.75".
I combined Crafty Individuals' CI-278 plate and postcard from
Tattered Angels' Timeless Romance.

I stamped the postcard on DP and colored the images with Copics.
The DPs are from Island Paperie in Maui.
I decorated the card with some cheese cloth, jute ribbons,
cotton rope, pearls, and charms.
I stamped the small seagull on mulberry paper
and cut it out with a postage stamp punch
to make it into a faux postage stamp.

Inside the card, I attached the lady to a small easel.
When she's propped up, it looks like she's
standing in the water.

I had fun making this card.
Now I just need to enter it in the challenge.

Thanks so much for stopping by, have a wonderful day.

Hugs,
Katie

Let It Snow - Tilda with Snow Pop Up Card

Hi Everyone!
Today I have a 3D Tilda winter scene card to share with you.
I made it to enter in MDUC pop up card challenge
using the sketch from Mid Week Magnolia.

I enjoy making scene card every now and then to break up the routine.
Although it requires a lot of work, it is fun and fulfilling.

The card front measures 5" x 5". I colored Tilda  and
the background with Copics, and then fussy cut out the image.
I decorated with die cuts and handmade flower,
and added ribbons to tie the front and back.

Inside the card, it's a winter scene with mini Tildas.
I combined 3 Magnolia stamps to make the background.
I fussy cut out the scene and adhered it to the card base
which I sponged with various shades of blue.

I die cut 4 pieces of trees and put them together
to create a 3D tree when the card is opened.
I added another strip of silver glitter paper in the front
to make the Tilda images pop forward .

This is the view when the card is semi-open.

Hope you enjoy this visit. Thanks for stopping by.

For You Dear Friend- Penny Black Teddy

Dear friends, hope you are keeping well.
I want to thank you for visiting my blog and taking time to leave me lovely comments.

Today, I have a card to share with you, a card I made for a friend who just had an operation.
When I was going through my stamp collections, I realized I have neglected my Penny Black stamps.
I chose one of the teddies in the Teddy & Company collection for this card.
For the layout, I followed CLP September sketch.

I always find making a masculine card very challenging.
For this card, I had to limit myself the amount of flowers and blings to use.

The card measures 5.5" x 5.5". DP is from Basic Grey.
Dies used are Magnolia, Memory Box, Spellbinder, and Sizzix.
Sentiment is from StampinUp.

I stamped the image with Archival Ink and water colored with TH Distressing Inks.
I must say water coloring with inks is very addicting.
I do know I need more practice :^)

I top stitched the DP and distressed the paper edges.
I added some die cut paper buttons, a piece of jute ribbon,
more die cuts, and 3 small flowers and pearls to dress up the card.
I used the same DP to decorate the inside.

Thanks again for stopping by. Have a nice day!

Hugs,
Katie

Little Tilda Christmas Tree Gift Box

Hi everyone! Hope you are doing well.
A very quick post today to share a little Christmas gift box with you.
I used the theme from MDUC's color challenge- Red, Silver, and White.

The box is 5" tall and the base is 3" x 3". I used StampinUp's Petal Cone die by Sizzix to cut the box.
I inverted the box and made it into a pyramid/tree.

I water colored Little Tilda with TH Distress inks, and decorated the box with die cuts.
Designer paper and dies are Magnolia.
I used Martha Stewart's punch to cut the little snow flakes.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful day.

Hugs,
Katie

Black Magic - Wish Upon A Star

Happy Sunday everyone!

I have a little paper project to share with you today- a little jewelry box.
I've made it to enter in Lili's Little Fairies Black Magic challenge.
The image I used is Wish Upon A Star from LOTV.

The box measures 3 3/4" in diameter.
I used Spellbinder Blossom dies to cut the cardstock and DP.

I inked the image in Archival Ink and water colored it with  TH Distress Inks.
I added some sparkles here and there using Viva Decor pearl pen,
and decorated the edges with cutout lace trims and paper roses.

The jewelry box has 2 tiers. The lid opens up to reveal a 1/2" storage shelf.
I colored and fussy cut out another image and used it to decorate
the underside of the lid.  The bottom part is a pull out drawer.
I used my favourite SU matchbox die to cut the drawer unit.

I added a crystal charm as the drawer knob, and
decorated both sides of the drawer with flowers from WOC.
The DP is from Magnolia.

Thanks very much for stopping by.  Have a wonderful week.

Hugs,
Katie

Beauty Lies Within and Handmade Paper Rose Tutorial

Hello everyone.
A couple of weeks ago, my team mate Suzie at Fashionista Challenge
asked if I would do a tutorial on the rose I made for my "Thinking of You" card.

I have a card to share with you today. I used one of my favourite stamp images,
Maribel from Stempelglede, and some of my handmade roses.
At the end of this post, I have a tutorial on how to make these paper roses.
I have seen several tutorials on the web using the same dies,
and my tutorial is just another variation.

The card measures 4 1/4"(W) x 6 1/4"(H).
I used Spellbinder Curved Rectangle dies to cut the card base,
and Label Four dies to cut the stamp image and mats.
The DP is 8 1/2" x 11" Fairy Belle from Prima.
I fussy cut out the beautiful flowers, butterfly and dragonfly from the edges of DP,
and used them to frame my card and decorate the inside of the card.

I used Cheery Lynn French Lattice Frame die to cut the trellis behind the image.
I added some foam tape under the DP frame to make it more 3D.

I lightly distressed the edges with TH Tea Dye distress ink, and completed the card with
some die cut swirls, leaves, pearls, pearl string, and some of my handmade flowers.
The sentiment I used is from Flourishes.

Thanks for stopping by and hope you enjoy this visit.

Hugs,
Katie

If you're interested in learning how to make these beautiful paper roses,
continue with the following 8 easy steps ;^). Enjoy!!

Paper Rose Tutorial using Spellbinder Rose Creation Dies

Step 1- Preparing the paper
Scrunch up cardstock until paper is reasonably pliable and separating into 2 layers.
I use Stampin'Up smooth cardstock here.

Separate the layers. The inside layer feels like suede and looks like mulberry paper.
This is the right side of paper I use for my paper roses.
This is the technique I use so the flowers are not too bulky and stiff when finished.

Step 2- Choose dies or punches
You can use any dies, punches, or free hand cutting. I use Spellbinder Rose Creation die set.
There are 6 flower petals measuring 1", 1 3/16", 1 3/8", 1 5/8", 2", and 2 3/4" in diameter.
For this tutorial, I use the 4 smaller dies; the finished flower is about 1 1/2" in diameter.

Step 3- Die cut the cardstock
After separating the cardstock layers, put the layers back, fuzzy sides together. Die cut the petals, cut 1 each of the 3 smaller petals and 2 of largest petal. Once cut, you can separate the paper again; this will make 2 paper roses.

Step 4- Sponging the petals with ink
This step is to give the petals more depth visually.
Sponge around the edge of the petals or the center of the petals,
using chalk ink, distress ink, or any dye ink of your choice.
I did both styles below.

Step 5- Rounding the petals into cup shape
Flip the die cuts to the wrong side, shape each petal into cup shape
using a foam mat or mouse pad and a tool with rounded end.
I use a marker with rounded end and a stylus.

Once all petals have been shaped, flip them to the right side,
shape the center of the 4 larger die cuts into cup shape.
Roll up the smallest petal into a bud.

Step 6- Pinching the petals (optional)
This step is optional if you want a more defined rose petal edge.

Step 7- Building the flowers
Take one of the 2 largest petals, add a small amount of glue in the center,
and then place the 2nd largest petal on it, overlapping the petals.
Use a tool with rounded end to press down the petals in the center.
Continue adding the petals, overlapping each other.

Step 8- Finishing touch
Once the glue is set, spay the roses with pearl mist to add some sparkles.

Note: For larger roses, use larger die cuts. You might need an extra petal to add fullness.
